Wedding at Atlanta Event Hall

When I am asked to photograph a wedding that infuses traditions and culture, I get excited. So as soon as Sandra contacted me detailing her two day wedding ceremony at the Atlanta Event Hall, I could not wait until the end of June 2018. Their engagement session was nothing but amazing and this got me even more excited for their traditional Nigerian wedding.

Traditional Nigerian Wedding

One thing you will notice within the photos is the vibrant outfits worn by guests. Not only this, but families of the couples wear identical colors and fabrics to identify themselves. This is known as Aso-Ebi. Both the soon to be bride and groom had entrances with music and friends around them. Once the family members approved of the marriage and the traditions were complete, it was time to dance. Guests “sprayed money” on Sandra and Otega as a sign of happiness. With the traditional ceremony complete, the next portion of the wedding took place two days later at Haygood United Methodist Church and The Temple.

Cain’s Camera would like to thank Sandra and Otega for choosing me to photograph an extremely important day in their lives. It was my pleasure to photograph your wedding and it was my honor to serve. If you are interested in booking Cain’s Camera for your wedding, please visit my Contact page.

Their Story

**How did the two of you meet?**
Our meeting was very unexpected. Otega & I met 6 years ago; at the time, my best friend Seyi lived in the same apartment complex with Otega. His first-year med school classmates were having a kickback and Seyi had a friend that was having a birthday party at the pool as well. Upon arriving at the pool, Otega came to introduce himself to us and my first impression of him was…“wow this dude is too happy and hype”. After finding out that me & his mom were from the same place Otega got super excited and proceeded to ask me for my number. I do not like giving “random” guys my number so I said “how about I get your number?” Few days later, I texted Otega and told him it was nice meeting him and he asked me out on a date.

**What did you do for your first date?**
Otega suggested that we go out to dinner. He chose RuSan’s, which is a Sushi and Seafood restaurant. Unbeknownst to him, I actually hate Sushi. Instead of changing the location, I decided to be adventurous and give sushi another shot. Dinner at RuSan’s was awesome; we talked about so many different things, almost as if we’ve known for years. Otega eventually realized my dislike for sushi and appreciated me still accepting to have dinner at RuSan’s. After dinner, I immediately knew that Otega was a good listener, could hold a good conversation and an overall down to earth person.

Wedding at Ashton Gardens

I was excited to learn Gabrielle and Jeremy chose Aston Gardens as their wedding venue. I’ve photographed at Ashton Gardens before and could not wait to capture some memorable photos. Their wedding was in the earlier part of the day, so we captured some amazing daytime photos. This included some photos of the bride outside the chapel and the groom with this groomsmen. Gabrielle looked amazing as she walked down the aisle as she greeted Jeremy.

Directly after the ceremony the guests were in for a treat as they all participated in the Grand March. During the reception the bride’s Liberian family and guests got up and danced to Liberian style music. The also formed a circle around the bride and groom in the middle of the dance floor. Afterward guests enjoyed the music of Glass Dee and sent the couple off formally with bubbles.

Testimonial

Once Gabrielle and Jeremy received their wedding photos, here is what this had to say:

When we saw Cain’s Camera work on WeddingWire, we had no hesitations to work with him. We selected Jabari as opposed to other photographers because we noticed his extreme attention to detail. We also could tell that he had extensive experience in photographing people of color in various lighting scenarios (i.e. – well-light and not so well-light). In general, however, we were particularly interested in how well he captured images in low-light scenarios. When we looked at other photographers we noticed a large variance in their photographs, as it related to lighting (i.e. – some of their pictures were dark) which lead us to choose Jabari as our wedding photographer. We are so glad that we did! We receive compliments daily on how beautiful all the wedding pictures came out.

Jabari is an extremely creative visionary who allowed us to give our input on the photos. He has a positive attitude and is always professional. We also appreciated that he offered a full wedding day “sneak peek” of photos as opposed to limiting it to just a few (i.e. 1 to 5 photos). Thank you so much for helping to make our Wedding Day the most memorable day of our lives! We cannot stop looking at the photos! They are beyond amazing and greatly exceeded our expectations! We would ABSOLUTELY recommend Cain’s Camera services because he is the best photographer we’ve ever had!

How did the two of you meet? Jeremy and I officially met through E-Harmony

What did you do for your first date? Instead of a 1st date, Jeremy and I had a 1st weekend with each other. After communicating for over three months, we were super excited to finally met. During our “1st weekend,” we visited several restaurants, rode go-carts, visited the swamps of Louisiana and so much more.

Who proposed and how? Jeremy made a surprise visit on the weekend after Valentine’s day. Initially, he told me that he came to spend time with me because he was unable to spend Valentine’s Day with me. I thought this was so sweet. He also mentioned that his surprise visit was due to our upcoming  “one year of dating” anniversary, which was Feb. 21st. During his visit, we relived our 1st weekend together. Surprisingly. I never actually suspected a proposal would serve as the final finale.  All in all, at the end of our “1st-weekend of dates re-enactment” he proposed.

Lastly, can you tell us a bit about your plans for your wedding? We plan on having a traditional wedding. It will take place at Ashton Gardens. Our goal is to create a simple yet elegant environment.

An Instant Connection

One thing I enjoy about clients that contact me over the phone for the first time is that instant connection. This was definitely the case when I spoke to Chaundra. I learned more about her fiancé Frank, their wedding vision, and the venue they selected – Pristine Chapel Lakeside. I’ve photographed at Pristine Chapel Lakeside in the past and I always look forward to capturing some amazing pictures.

Wedding at Pristine Chapel Lakeside

The wedding day finally arrived on July 29th, 2017. The guest were energetic and the large bridal party were even more enthused. Frank couldn’t wait to see his bride walk down the aisle as he smiled ear to ear. When there was a little down time during the reception, I escorted Chaundra and Frank outside for couple’s portraits. I love taking couple’s portraits when it’s completed dark outside and the results came out stunning.

Special Thanks

Cain’s Camera would like to thank Chaundra and Frank for choosing us to photograph an extremely important day in their lives. It was our pleasure to photograph your wedding and it was our honor to serve. Congratulations on the baby and I know you two will be amazing parents!

Their Story

How did the two of you meet?
Frank and I went to Jackson State University in Jackson, MS both on athletic scholarships. He played baseball and I played softball. We hung around the same people so it was bound for us to meet. One day he approached my best friend Jessica, who also played softball and he let her know that he was interested in getting to know me, so she said she would help him out lol.

One day Jessica and I were headed to one of the baseball boys little get together and she tells me that there may be someone there that wants my number. I immediately wanted to know who, but she said she would let me know find out, but when the sparks fly to take things slow. I’ll never forget walking into Michael Bravo’s room and seeing a bunch of guys there, but there was one particular guy smiling and staring at me so I immediately knew that was him. We sat at the table and played spades against each other and the entire time we were taunting one another. Once it was time to leave he came up to me and asked if he could have my number.

What did you do on your first date?
We went to see Law Abiding Citizen around Halloween 2009. He came to pick me up from the dorm and everything about that night was perfect. He came to my dorm and walked me to the car like a gentleman. I know in his head he probably thought, “why does this girl want to see an action movie on our first date?” but it was everything I thought it would be. Tinseltown movie theater was the name of the movie theater in Pearl, MS. We officially became boyfriend and girlfriend December 07, 2009 after we came from grabbing food at our favorite Chinese restaurant. We sat in the car and he turned to me and said “I have to tell you something, will you be my girlfriend?” I smiled from the inside and out and said yes. He walked me to my dorm and kissed me goodnight.

Who proposed and how?
Super bowl 50!!!! Panthers versus Broncos! February 7th, 2016 I will never forget this day! Back in Ridgeland, MS we invited a couple of friends over to watch the game. We had everything you could possibly think of at the house. We really were enjoying ourselves. The talk of the day was what would Beyoncé do for the halftime show. As the game was going on I was being a typical hostess making sure everyone had enough to drink enough to eat giving that good southern hospitality.

Halftime came around and Frank comes into the living room and asked me to take a seat. I didn’t understand why he wanted me to sit down but I said ok. He comes in front of me and told me, “do you remember the very first thing I ever told you”? I looked at him and said no lol we had been together for a little over six years so I couldn’t think back that far. The next thing still makes my hands shake. He said I told you I would never leave your side then he gets down on one knee. I immediately threw my hands in my face I wasn’t sure if I would cry or if I was just in shock when he said, Chaundra Latrice Greer, will you marry me? I SAID YES! Needless to say, no one knew what Beyoncé did for halftime lol.

Their Engagement Session

Jessica and Malik had a fabulous engagement session at the Millennium Gate Museum! The engagement session began with a casual look on the Atlantic Station bridge and this was followed by a brief walk over to the Millennium Gate. After the engagement session, we counted the days to the wedding at The Venetian Room on October 6th, 2017.

Wedding at The Venetian Room

Guests arrived looking very classy with all black attire. Malik was happy to see his bride walk down the aisle escorted by her father Jeffrie Scott. I escorted the bridal party and couple outside for some portraits after the ceremony. I love night time photos as the look is like no other. We returned to the reception with the decor and floral crafted beautifully by Niq Williams Events. The guests danced to the music of Tamarious Hill during the reception. In addition, the bride requested some “creative shots” within the lobby area and we definitely came through on our end. The final request was captured and the couple concluded with a formal send-off with sparklers as they exited the Venetian Room.

Cain’s Camera would like to thank Jessica and Malik for choosing us to photograph one of the most important days in their lives. It was our pleasure to photograph your wedding and it was our honor to serve. Also, a very special thank you goes to Crystal Pink Events for introducing us to this amazing couple.

Their Story

How did the two of you meet?
We met at Dugan’s Sports Bar in Stone Mountain, Ga. My best friend Shikanah (who is my maid of honor!) introduced us. She had previously worked with Malik at the YMCA. I turned down his offer to give him my number because he wasn’t my type! After a talk with my bestie she convinced me to give him a chance because he was genuinely a “good guy”. The same night we met we ended up talking for a little over two hours and the rest was history!

What did you do for your first date?
Our first date was actually to iHop for brunch. We were both excited to hang out with each other again LOL.

Who proposed and how?
Malik proposed on October 23, 2016 at South City Kitchen in Vinings, GA. I was under the impression that I was going to a photoshoot and dinner with my best friend. When I arrived and turned the corner of the restaurant, I saw him standing along with my closest friends and our families. He had a banner that had our tagline “Forever Mine, Forever Thine, Forever Ours. Future Mr. & Mrs. Cooper”. He gave his speech, dropped down to one knee and proposed. I was completely shocked and excited. It was the best day ever!

Lastly, can you tell us a bit about your plans for your wedding?
We want our wedding to be classy, elegant, and entertaining. We plan to get married October 6, 2017 at 7 pm. Our colors are black, gold, and ivory. We want our guests to enjoy themselves and revel in our the beautiful decor of our wedding! I want to enjoy the evening and have memories for years to come.

My Introduction to Aretha and Jean

It is always great to meet a couple who traveled a long way to meet all their vendors. Aretha, Jean, Sabrina (Crystal Pink Events), and I all sat down at their wedding venue – The Chateau Elan Winery and Resort. The consultation went very well. The excitement from Aretha and Jean made me even more excited to photograph their wedding. We took the time to walk the grounds and get some additional ideas for the event. This is by far one of my favorite venues to photograph a wedding because of the endless possibilities.

The Wedding at Chateau Elan Winery and Resort:

The wedding ceremony took place on June 17, 2017 with beautiful weather and stunning floral decor provided by Chelsea Floral Design. There were memorable moments during the ceremony including the guests’ reaction when Aretha walked down the aisle, the father of the bride’s conversation with Jean, and the sand ceremony. Directly after the ceremony I escorted the family and bridal party to the winery for formal portraits. Afterwards, everyone was ready to relax and dance to the sounds of DJ Glass Dee.

The couple’s portraits were photographed in the vineyard, winery, and by the water fountain. It is always great to work with couples that understand the importance of wedding photography. They typically request as many photos as possible. In the end, this is what the couple is left with and the day can not be photographed again.

Cain’s Camera would like to wish Aretha and Jean the very best! Thank you again for choosing us to photograph your wedding day. Also, a very special thank you goes to Crystal Pink Events for introducing us to this amazing couple. The day went smoothly thanks to Crystal Pink Events and her team.

My Introduction to Jocelyn and Dee

The first time I met Jocelyn and Dee was during an online consultation. The couple viewed our work from previous engagement sessions and weddings. They were so excited about their wedding at Pristine Chapel Lakeside and I was just as excited to discuss their vision. After the meeting, there was no hesitation of who they wanted their wedding photographer to be. The next step was scheduling their engagement session. They selected Jackson Street Bridge / Piedmont Park and their engagement photos can be viewed here.

The Wedding at Pristine Chapel Lakeside:

Pristine Chapel is a beautiful venue to get married. For the most part everything is done in house including the planner, cake, and DJ. The wedding timeline flowed without any setbacks thanks to the planner Teneshia of Pristine Chapel Lakeside. Directly after the ceremony I knew we we had about 30 minutes until sunset. I took advantage of the light by photographing some couple’s portraits by the pond. When the sun did set Jocelyn and Dee were eager to go outside and take some additional photos. These two were an amazing couple to work with and we wish them the best.

All About Jocelyn and Dee

How did the two of you meet?
Dee & I have known each other since we were little kids. Our families both went to the same church so everyone is very close knit. We didn’t form a friendship until our sophomore year in high school. I use to walk up & give him hugs every now & then to try and get his attention but I didn’t think he would give me the time of the day. At the end of the school year we happen to strike up a conversation outside that continued on to MySpace. We exchanged numbers & that summer we made it official June 11, 2008. High school sweethearts!

What did you do for your first date?
On our first date Dee picked me up & we had dinner at Chili’s. Something simple.

Who proposed and how?
Dee proposed to me on my 24th birthday this year. I thought it was just going to be a regular birthday dinner with family and friends but he totally surprised me in the end when the waiter brought my birthday dessert with the ring sitting on top of it. Absolutely one of the best days in my life.

Lastly, can you tell us a bit about your plans for your wedding?
Dee’s plan was to have something small but being the girl I am my wedding has to be big! I chose to step away from the traditional church wedding, I wanted something different. We plan to have pictures set up of both his mom who passed away when we were 5, his step mother who passed away 2 years ago & now my dad who recently passed about a month ago. We also plan to have a table set aside in remembrance of the 3 of them. I plan for the wedding to be very family oriented. My dream for this wedding is for it to be extravagant! I want to be the talk of the town once it’s over ([but in a good way 🙂 ).
